A BYRD IN THE HAND
Tuesday 15.09
Presented by Molly Arnuk & Thomas Shorthouse
William Byrd had extensive connections with contemporary poets of his time, with whom he wrote his secular vocal music. A Byrd in the Hand' features violinist-composer Jaime Garcia-Añoveros playing arrangements of Byrd's songs for solo violin, detaching the text from the music. Each song is followed by a new work for violin ensemble by composer-writer duos taking inspiration from the text of the unheard song preceding it.
