    every thursday

Improv Lounge Jam Sessions – live from the basement, every Thursday!

Come along with your instrument (or just yourself) and get stuck into a relaxed night of jamming. Whether you're here to play or just enjoy the tunes, everyone's welcome.

To keep these sessions free to attend, we just ask that you support the night by grabbing a drink or a bite while you're here – every purchase at the bar helps us keep the jams going.

No need to drink alcohol if that's not your thing – we've got loads of soft drinks and some cracking empanadas too.

    See you down there!

  • yorick

    friday 25/04/2025

Yorick is a collaborative trio that bridges the gap between improvised music and the singer-songwriter tradition via the colourful songs of Tom Griffiths (guitar/vocals). John Jones (double bass) and Matt Cook (saxophones) are stalwarts of the London jazz scene who can be seen regularly at the Vortex and the Parakeet, among many other venues. After a run of mercurial shows at independent venues around London they are preparing for their first release in summer 2025.

  • saturno santos

    saturday 03/05/2025

Somewhere between Brazil and the Netherlands, Saturno Santos creates imaginative anti-pop for global generations. From within collective KB_, this rotating ensemble was drawn together by radiant young voices of the Amsterdam avant-garde, with members from South-African, Italian, and immigrant backgrounds. Forming a global indie band through the prism of creative music, they arrive as a trio for their first mini-tour of the UK.

Heartfelt voices of MPB and punk alike, visceral grooves of maracatu and congada, contemporary melodies of jazz - and a handful of questions - are all cast into a bright ritual. Cradling the mystery of "folk" traditions while living in the flow of urban globalized life, Saturno Santos affirms that a new language must be created every day.

Over the last years, Saturno has carved a space for itself playing esteemed festivals and venues, including NSRT, Space is the Place, WORM and Cinetol, as well as DIY basements, squats, and stages of all kinds. They are often in close collaboration with rising improvisers from the Dutch creative music scene, such as Chaerin Im and Nicolò Ricci. Following a residency in Belgium last winter, they’ve started recording their debut album with producer Alessandro Mazzieri (Wisseloord Studios).

Gabriel de Oliveira - guitar, voice, compositions

    Zenzele Mthembu-Salter - bass, voice

    Niels Luteijn - drums, electronics

  • angel wong (+support)

    wednesday 07/05/2025

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Angel Wong is a vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music is characterised by original indie neo-soul songs, reimaginations of fringe jazz standards, and an open-minded approach to improvising derived from a love of contemporary and free music.

Currently, Angel is a master’s student in jazz performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, but her undergraduate days were spent studying musicology and cultural history. As a result, she keenly embraces a variety of musical idioms as both a scholar and a practitioner (performing, writing, producing), spanning all the way from Western Art Music and Chinese folk music to 90s Gospel Music and the electronic sound worlds of Trance, Future Bass and Alternative Pop.

Besides her recent debut at the EFG London Jazz Festival, Angel has performed globally in venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Monks Jazz Club (Austin, Texas), The Vortex Jazz Club, Jazz Cafe Posk, The Jago, The Morocco Bound (London), Hong Kong Disneyland, Chez Trente and Cheek to Cheek (Hong Kong). Similarly, she has had the pleasure of collaborating and performing with a roster of Grammy Award winners, nominees and other iconic trailblazers in the modern-day jazz scene, including Bill Laurance, Billy Childs, Zara McFarlane, Mark Kavuma, Tom Green, Callum Au, Darmon Meader, Trish Clowes, Gareth Lockrane, Ola Onabule, and members of jazz supergroup MOSS (Peter Eldridge, Kate McGarry, Lauren Kinhan, Theo Bleckmann, and Jo Lawry).

    saturday 10/05/2025

Hailing from South London, ABNA brings a bold, contemporary edge to the classic jazz trio.

Their raw, energetic sound— powered by saxophone, double bass, and drums—is often elevated by the addition of electronic textures, creating dynamic, layered compositions.

Drawing influences by everything from Afrobeat, hip-hop, dub, and grime to bebop, soul, and RnB, ABNA creates a genre-blending experience that feels both timeless and modern. Featuring collaborations with some of the UK’s finest musicians, they are a must-see.
